Useful Distractions...


You can either call it completing the task of mapping the early universe ("baby" pictures), to show the brief "inflationary period" of the universe's birth.

To do so, the instruments are cooled just 10 degrees above absolute zero and designed to detect super-cold celestial objects.

It's finding a lot of other sources that allows it to differentiate "foreground" radiation from Cosmic Microwave Background radiation. The result being a clearer map.
