I remember owning a copy of the original Action Comics and cover that Superman appears on, lifting a car and shaking out bad guys.
There was a little blurb that gave a reasonable explanation about Superman's powers, one of which was this (usually disgusting) little guy:
He's able to leap 200X his height!
So, let's say our hypothetical "Superman" is an even 6" tall: in flea terms, he could leap 1200 feet in the air. (He had better BE invulnerable when he lands for his own mythical sake!)
Which, in the DC fan universe, I think is a more reasonable explanation than levitated flight.
