Solar Flares and Infrastructure...

I only post this because it seems to be a relevant topic in the news lately.

I had a previous post: "Solar Flares and Possible Effects," not to make light of it, but to not add to the on-going question I get about December 21, 2012.  If a calendar company went out of business today, would we conclude that the last copy predicted a cataclysm?

To paraphrase Yogi Berra: "it's Y2K all over again!"

I'm sure December 22, 2012, we'll still be here and I will still be blogging about physics-related topics.

I will say this: nefarious elements could use the phenomena to orchestrate chaos as without GPS, ATM or the purchase of gasoline (all satellite transactions), we'd be in a weakened state.  (Italics mine)

Adolescents might show symptoms similar to delirium tremens because they could no longer text/tweet incessantly.  The listed characteristics for the standard malady sounds a lot like a teen in desperate need of their "electronic pacifier."

You see? There's ALWAYS a silver lining...
