Astonishing, and heart felt...

I went TDY - temporary duty - to Tuscon, Arizona many times during my stint in the Air Force to Davis Mountain AFB.  I visited Pinnacle Peak Restaurant, home of the famous "Cowboy Steak" (32 cooked ounces!).  I could only digest half of a "Cowgirl."

This tragedy struck me...hard.  Images in Tuscon I am very familiar with.  It wasn't something that just "happened" in a distant state on the news.

I will allow Representative Gifford's husband - Scott Kelly, astronaut - to sum up the events in Arizona elloquently:

"We have a unique vantage point here aboard the ISS," Scott Kelly said before the moment of silence. "As I look out the window, I see a very beautiful planet that seems very inviting and peaceful. Unfortunately, it is not. These days, we are constantly reminded of the unspeakable acts of violence and damage we can inflict upon one another, not just with our actions but also with our irresponsible words. We are better than this. We must do better."

We should all look at our world from such a vantage point.  Perhaps our self-centered perspectives would change...
