"Poop" Science...

I freely admit to having had at one time a copy of "The Secret."

I found it very entertaining.  Just as I found "What the Bleep Do We Know?" hilarious...

I've since loaned both DVDs out, and frankly have no desire to seek their return.

I could not call either "science" or based it on an in-depth knowledge of quantum mechanics.

Keep your hands off my theory! New Age mystics are misusing quantum mechanics, an article by physicist Eric Swanson weighs in on the popular blend of science and faith, which does neither any good.

"Righteous indignation" by Professor Swanson would be a kind spin!

There's also (if you Google it) "quantum jumping" for the gullible enough to purchase a ticket on the "slick oil" express.

It follows the three premises of a book I recently finished: "Idiot America" - 1) it sounds good; 2) it moves product; 3) if enough people say it (ala in Swanson's article, "the Oprah" endorses it), it must be therefore true.

Hence, the title of this posting.  "Popular Science," should do what the magazine by the same name endeavors to do: "Popular Science has been a leading source of science and technology news since its inception way back in 1872."

For yet another new age (non) "expert" tome on quantum phenomena, excrement is a far better comparison...
