There are a few episodes of "The Atom" I can recall: he gained his powers from a piece of White Dwarf Star (not hardly! See: Physics of Superheroes). Some of the incredible things he could do - as SciFi/SyFy writers heard or read about it: he could "shrink" himself into micro-verses/other universes.
This is where "string theory" bears its theoretical muscle: it allows for 10500 "solutions" of possible universes/multiverse. Of course, beyond the chalkboard/dry erase board/computer program these are not observable: a hard science criterion.
The article in Discovery reminded me of a youth and a time when physicists were...superheroes!
