The latest idea from Gregory Benford, award-winning science-fiction writer and professor of physics at the University of California at Irvine, his twin brother, James, and James' son Dominic, regarding SETI: the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence is that we should have been listening to short burst transmissions versus continuous. We got the continuous idea from the thought TV episodes of I Love Lucy would go on forever (as they do on TV Land) and be picked up by now.
Alas, it's far too distant for any alien and Desi upset with Lucy, dressing her down in his native language might me misconstrued as an act of war!
I don't want a Klingon at my doorstep unnecessarily!
